These are called "air lifts". Generally they require greater than 50% submergence or the water in the well must be deeper than the height to be pumped above the water level.

Some flow rates with 80% submergence (100 foot deep well with 80 ft water, 20 feet to water surface) (also requires a fair amount of air).

I have used these in my engineering past, only where I needed a little boost to get the fluid over the hump without the complication of installing a pump.

From what I could tell it works like a JET PUMP just uses AIR insted of water for the JET and lift. I have seen similar things much smaller scale to run FILTERS on fish tanks!:yes:

Could run the compressor off a wind mill I supose and the irigation pump off 12 volts from batteries and solar pannels.:yes: TOTALY OFF GRID!:yes::s9:

I am soooo happy that my property came with a artesian well 450ft deep into the aquifer. It has its own head pressure of about 12psig. I use only a small jet pump to move the water around. During power outages I just jump around the pump and the house has water(at that same low pressure). Deep well pumps sound like a PITA.

I'm also on dialup (at a blazing 28.8Kb!), and it can definitely be a pain. We can't get broadband at home, unless I want to drop a dozen or so trees to our southwest (some of which aren't on my property) to get a satellite modem.

You CAN, however, watch Youtube videos, like the one linked in the well pump video. I use a website called KeepVid (www.keepvid.com) to download & save videos to my computer. Then you can use a FLV format file viewer to watch the videos. Painfully slow, but better than nothing on a video you really want to watch.
